Profit.

Cashflow.

Overheads.

It is easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of numbers in a small to medium sized business. Starting out in business in 2006 without a financial background was a hugely daunting challenge and it seems complexity only increases as you grow.

I recall reading an article in theage back in the day about a captain of business (who will remain un-named) saying that every morning he has a print out of each one of his divisions of his company with the top line numbers, bottom line numbers and at a glance knew the exact health of his business. Whilst I cannot claim to have a conglomerate this definitely had an indelible effect on my thinking. Almost since the very beginning we have been very focussed on drive sales. As they say, there is not many business problems that extra sales does not fix (more on that later).

Another business mentor told us to focus on what counts, bringing in the customers (and not painting the walls). Thankfully we left it around 15 years to paint our first set of office walls our PMS blue.

Starting very early on with a focus on revenue had some serious impacts on our focus. Every time we walked into the office, that number stared at us. We didn’t forget it. Almost like the law of attraction if you will. A few months passed and we quickly learned that revenue was very much of secondary important to gross profit. Then Net profit. You get the idea.

Fast forward 9 years and our revenue targets are more than 20 times what they were in 2012. We have evolved our scoreboards - it needs to be big, highly visible and not manually entered. Countless iterations and refinements have been made to the point where I consider our hustleboard, scoreboard and seo dashboard my “Dream Dashboards”. Yes, at a glance, from anywhere I can tell you if we are having a good day, week, month or quarter. And in anticipation fairly accurately tell you if next week, month or quarter are on track.

Our scoreboards have galvanised our team, and above all provide clarity on what success looks like both on a personal and company level. We can’t celebrate if we don’t know what we are aiming for. I’d be lying if it didn’t also stir up some competitive spirit amongst the team. Is that a positive? 100% all day every day, for the right team members.

Hustleboard and Scoreboard consolidate all the key data from the top of your sales funnel all the way through to closing. It tracks all the key metrics that will impact your bottom line and keep your team accountable and on track. Don’t believe me? Read more testimonials here.
